Privacy Policy
Important Privacy Information
When you access our Website and/or the App, we automatically collect from your device: language settings, IP address, time zone, type and model of device, device settings, operating system, Internet service provider, hardware ID, and other unique identifiers (such as Identifier for Vendor). We need this data to provide our services and analyze how our customers use the App.
For improving the App and website, we use third-party solutions. As a result, we may process data using solutions developed by Google (Firebase, Gemini), RevenueCat, OpenRouter, Groq, and OpenAI. Some of the data is stored and processed on the servers of such third parties. This enables us to (1) analyze different interactions (how often users make purchases, which features are used); (2) generate comprehension quizzes from scanned book pages.
We do not serve ads, do not use IDFA or cross-app tracking, and do not sell your personal data.
Please read our Privacy Policy below to know more about what we do with data (Section 3), what data privacy rights are available to you (Section 6), and who will be the data controller (Section 1).
If you are a California resident, please review our California Notice at Collection (Section 10). If you reside in a state with a comprehensive U.S. privacy law (for example, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Texas, Utah, and Virginia), please also see Section 10 for information about your privacy rights.
If any questions remain unanswered, please contact us at support@readtounlock.com.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data is collected when you use the Read to Unlock: App Blocker mobile application (the “App”), the website located at https://readtounlock.com (the “Website”), and the services and products provided through them (together with the App and Website, the “Service”), and how such personal data will be processed.
By using the Service, you promise us that (i) you have read, understand, and agree to this Privacy Policy, and (ii) you are over 16 years of age (or have had your parent or guardian read and agree to this Privacy Policy for you). If you do not agree, or are unable to make this promise, you must not use the Service. In such a case, you must: (a) contact us and request deletion of your data; (b) cancel any active subscriptions or trials; (c) leave the Service and not access or use it; and (d) delete the App from your devices.
Any translation from the English version is provided for your convenience only. In the event of any difference in meaning between the English language version of this Privacy Policy available at https://readtounlock.com/privacy and any translation, the English language version will prevail.

2. Categories of Personal Data We Collect
We collect data you give us voluntarily (for example, your email address). We also may receive data about you from third parties (for example, payment data, when you sign in via Apple). We also collect data automatically (for example, your IP address).
2.1. Data you give us
If you decide to make a purchase on the Website, we will ask you to provide your email address, which will be used to send you details on your payment and communicate with you. We may also collect your name, age range, self-reported daily phone usage, reading goals, app blocking selections, and discipline settings to tailor our product to your personal needs. You do not have to give this data to us in order to use the App. You can also provide us with your email when you contact our support team.
We may collect and process content that you create within the Service, such as scanned book text used for quiz generation. This content is used to provide and improve the Service. We do not share such user-generated content with third parties except as necessary for quiz generation (see Section 5).
2.2. Data provided by third parties
When you use Sign In with Apple to register an account in the Service, we get personal data from your Apple ID account. This data may include your name and verified email address. You may choose to share your real email address or an anonymous one that uses the private email relay service.
When you initiate a payment, we may receive from a third-party payment service provider information about the transaction amount, date, and time.
2.3. Data we collect automatically
2.3.1. Data about how you found us
We collect data about your referring app or URL (the app or place on the Web where you were when you tapped on a link to our Service).
2.3.2. Device and location data
We collect data from your device, including: language settings, IP address, time zone, type and model of device, device settings, operating system, Internet service provider, mobile carrier, and hardware ID.
2.3.3. Usage data
We record how you interact with our Service. For example, we log your taps on certain areas of the interface, the features and content you interact with, how often you use the Service, how long you are on the Service, onboarding steps, scans, quiz results, and your subscription orders.
2.3.4. Device identifiers
We collect your Identifier for Vendor (“IDFV”). We do not collect the Apple Identifier for Advertising (“IDFA”) or any cross-app tracking identifiers.
2.3.5. Transaction data
When you make payments through the Service, we do not collect or store full credit card number data. We may receive data about the transaction, including date, time, amount, and the type of payment method used. In-app payments are processed entirely by Apple; website payments are processed by our third-party payment processor.
2.3.6. Cookies
A cookie is a small text file stored on your device for record-keeping purposes. Cookies can be session cookies (which expire when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (which remain for an extended period). Cookies are used to automatically recognize you on return visits and to analyze traffic. Cookie data is stored on your device, usually for a limited time period.
3. For What Purposes We Process Personal Data
3.1. To provide our Service
This includes enabling you to use the Service in a seamless manner and preventing or addressing Service errors or technical issues. As a result of such processing, we will use your email, for example, to communicate with you.
We use Firebase Cloud Functions (Google) as backend infrastructure for processing OCR text and generating quizzes.
We use Firebase Performance Monitoring (Google) to monitor the Service's performance. To monitor infrastructure and the App's stability, we use Crashlytics (Google).
3.2. To customize your experience
We process your personal data, such as age range, reading goals, and other information you provide to adjust the content of the Service and provide content tailored to your personal preferences.
3.3. To provide you with customer support

We communicate with you, for example, by push notifications if you opt in. These may include reminders and motivational messages encouraging you to engage with the Service, or other information about the Service. To opt out of receiving push notifications, you need to change the settings on your device.
To communicate with you we also use Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google), which allows us to send messages and notifications to users on iOS devices. We integrate Firebase Notifications with Firebase Analytics to create analytics-based audiences and track opening and conversion events.
3.5. To research and analyze your use of the Service
This helps us to better understand our business, analyze our operations, maintain, improve, innovate, plan, design, and develop the Service and new products. We also use such data for statistical analysis purposes, to test and improve our offers. This enables us to better understand which categories of users use our Service. As a result, we make decisions about improving the Service based on the results of this analysis.
We use Firebase Analytics (Google) to understand how customers use our Service. Firebase Analytics collects various technical information, including time zone, type of device, and unique identifiers. It also allows us to track various interactions that occur in our Service.
To track and analyze how users react to changes of the Service structure, text, or any other component, we use Firebase Remote Config (Google), which is an A/B testing and configuration service that also enables us to tailor the content users see (for example, showing different onboarding screens to different users).
3.6. To process your payments
We provide paid products and/or services within the Service. In-app purchases are processed by Apple. Website purchases are processed by our third-party payment processor. Subscription status is managed via RevenueCat. We do not store or collect your payment card details. This information is provided directly to the applicable payment processor.

As we develop our business, we may buy or sell assets or business offerings. Customers' information is generally one of the transferred business assets in these types of transactions. We may also transfer such information in the course of a corporate transaction, such as a sale, divestiture, merger, consolidation, or asset sale, or in the unlikely event of bankruptcy. In particular, if we transfer personal data originating from the EEA to countries without an adequate level of data protection, we use one of the following legal bases: (i) Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission, or (ii) the European Commission adequacy decisions about certain countries.
